room with a seaview.

so things have changed. i'm looking at new york harbor. if i go to the kitchen i can see a rusted out (so very gorgeous) sugar refinary. i smell the sea. it's not 3,000 square feet of 40 foot ceilings, and it's not without a certain meloncholy that i bid le bye bye to 306 dean street and all that went with it.... it's also odd representing whitey in a tiny isolated peninsula of southwest brooklyn, though there are lots of kinds of people here and it all seems to make sense. lots and lots of sense.

there are no subways. but the b61 comes 5 times an hour and gets me to smith and atlantic in 10 minutes. the mexican ladies at the bodega seem almost ready to smile at me cuz i'm smiling now too. (i've been buying two bags of ice a day b/c my refridgerator is broken). i'm getting a new one friday. and a new stove. and my hot water works. and my plants are very happy.

an important note: i love redhook.

people make random art, leave it on the streets and no one takes it away. there's an over designed diner that has excellent food and costs less than my arabian paradise on atlantic ave. there's also some pizza and bagels and lots of stoopside activity. kids on bikes. drunk weathered shippers. a breeze. i like the boys in the cars that go boom. (JJ FAD!)

i have seen not one cop writing a parking ticket.

my new home is refreshingly late 1800's san francisco styleee. its long and skinny with tall tall windows and gets the right light and has the right views and i hope you'll come visit. i'll invite you, but consider yourself already invited. if you're in the hood buzz 415 van brunt street, apartment 4. it's right at the corner of beard street. there are piers and shit. you can see ships.

i got a cable modem cuz there is no DSL in redhook. i also got this gadget that turns my computer monitor into a TV. its called an up-converter. www.avtoolbox.com. its cool. cheaper than tv, better picture. less wasted space. i just watched a movie about tammy wynette. and well, now i'm listening to the 1st lady of country herself.

which reminds me... i have to find some records for cruz to play... as thursday is GROUNDED'S ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY.

it's hard to believe really that cruz and i have been doing grounded fer a whole year. if you haven't been yet... get yer ass out, for we have EXTRA SPECIAL GUESTS! it's nice and convenient, just after work 7-10pm. we would love to trick you into our special brew of randomness that makes my heart go pitter pat.

three free drinks to the first person who shows up with a copy of Jolene by Dolly Parton on vinyl for me to keep. though you'll get four if you can find natalie merchant singing it. recorded live with david byrne (tho i dont think he sings). it's too bad he has to ruin it in the end by saying "see you in dollywood." irony is so 1990. and awefully petty.

dollywood has a roller coaster in the shape of a butterfly. i rode it and got kind of sick and had to eat some chicken and dumplings to settle my stomach. i love dolly parton. and there's no irony about it. fuck david byrne. even though he re-released shuggie otis and has created a million bazillion incredible moments. make no mistake: you disrespect dolly and i get wiley.

um. anyway.....
